2024-05-24: Data Commons Website Release Notes

Note to reader: Every few weeks, we’ll start publishing a post to highlight front end feature adds and changes to Data Commons and Custom Data Commons. We hope this helps our partners and users. Feedback is always welcome! 

As of 5/23/24, Data Commons has added the following features and changes:

Charting

“Dates of highest coverage option” now available in the web components (see example)

Map chart with "most recent date with highest coverage" highlighted in a time slider below the map.

“Show trends summary” checkbox shows dates across time (see example)

Line Chart tooltips now show variables in the order they appear on the chart (see example)

Explorers

Update to styling to provide more real estate for showing charts in the Visualization Tools (see example)

“Graph Browser” has now been renamed the “Knowledge Graph

Update to Statistical variable explorer landing page

Natural Language interface

  • Improved NL detection with improved descriptions and a newer model (try it out!)
  • A new place detection endpoint

Custom Data Commons

  • A convenient script for developers to run services in Custom Data Commons mode
  • Custom Data Commons no longer uses absolute HTTP redirects
  • Added support for Redis
  • Documentation updates at https://docs.datacommons.org/custom_dc/ 

And, a ton of test updates, code refactoring, and bug fixes!
